It's been a little over a month since [Bar Camp I](http://factoryjoe.com/blog/2005/08/13/bar-the-alternative-to-foo/?ref=chrismessina.me) and already the opportunity to springboard the next Bar Camp has manifested. So today I'm announcing [Bar Camp Amsterdam](http://www.barcamp.org/index.cgi?BarCampAmsterdam&ref=chrismessina.me). The format might be a little different than the original, but it's going to be one hellova time no matter what. So first things first -- this is happening as a *complement* to [EuroOSCON](http://conferences.oreillynet.com/eurooscon/?ref=chrismessina.me). Turns out that there were only 12 booths allotted for open source projects and they were $1000 each. Not exactly affordable to community projects like [Drupal](http://drupal.org/?ref=chrismessina.me). And besides that, they've all sold out, leaving many projects in the lurch, unable to show off their hard work to the OSCON community. Once it became clear that a good number of projects would be lacking representation at EuroOSCON, it became clear that we needed to stage our own off-site conference. There you have it. We have [wiki](http://www.barcamp.org/index.cgi?BarCampAmsterdam&ref=chrismessina.me). Now we need a venue. Who can help ([BarCampUKers](http://barcamp.org.uk/?ref=chrismessina.me), I'm looking at you!)?Technorati tags: [barcamp](http://technorati.com/tag/barcamp?ref=chrismessina.me), [bar camp](http://technorati.com/tag/bar%22camp?ref=chrismessina.me), [opensource](http://technorati.com/tag/opensource?ref=chrismessina.me), [eurooscon](http://technorati.com/tag/eurooscon?ref=chrismessina.me)

Just to clarify, the EuroOSCON expo hall has room for twelve exhibitors. Those twelve spaces were taken by sponsors. We would have let open source projects have free booth space if there'd been any. But there isn't. We've done this in the past--Drupal, for example, had a free booth at the US OSCON in August. I'm staying in Amsterdam the Friday after EuroOSCON. I'm looking forward to Bar Camp! --Nat

\[...\] nome and Gada.be has stepped up as a Bar Camp Amsterdam sponsor: I’ve also informed Chris Messina that we’ll be giving our support to BarCamp Amsterdam as well. Why? \[...\]
