[](http://www.flickr.com/photos/factoryjoe/410436205/?ref=chrismessina.me)**Update:** 4/14/2007: I've recreated the [NIB file](http://www.factorycity.net/downloads/quicksilver/QSCubeInterface.nib.zip?ref=chrismessina.me) to use the latest version of the Cube Interface source. **Update:** Oops! I wasn't very specific about that `.nib` file. I've updated the instructions to make it more clear now. As for HEX colors in the Color Picker, try the [HexColorPicker](http://www.luckysoftware.dk/hexcolorpicker.php?ref=chrismessina.me). Thanks Frank! There was a [trend](http://tonyarnold.com/articles/2006/07/06/quicksilvers-new-cube-ui-hidden-preferences-ahoy?ref=chrismessina.me) awhile back to [tout](http://blacktree.cocoaforge.com/forums//viewtopic.php?p=19263&ref=chrismessina.me) your [custom QuickSilver interface](http://www.hawkwings.net/2006/07/21/quicksilver-settings-to-pimp-your-cube/?ref=chrismessina.me). At the time I [resisted doing anything hardcore](http://www.flickr.com/photos/factoryjoe/190577067/?ref=chrismessina.me), content to enjoy other people's works. Well, without any QuickSilver updates lately, I finally gave in and copied a style I [found in the forums](http://blacktree.cocoaforge.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=19538&ref=chrismessina.me#19538) created by Axlin by following the [instructions provided by Hawk Wings](http://www.hawkwings.net/2006/06/28/hacking-quicksilvers-cube-interface-for-bigger-icons/?ref=chrismessina.me). To save folks the hassle, I'll make this really easy for you. First, make sure you're running the [latest version](http://getsq.blacktree.com/?ref=chrismessina.me) of QuickSilver (β51). Next, [install the Cube interface](id=com.blacktree.Quicksilver.QSCubeInterfacePlugIn) if you don't have it already. Third, [launch the Cube customization interface](//preferences#QSCubeInterfacePrefPane). Ok, once there, make your settings look like this: [](http://www.flickr.com/photos/factoryjoe/410462697/?ref=chrismessina.me)Now, here's where it gets a little dicey. You'll need to first download the replacement [QSCubeInterface.nib](http://www.factorycity.net/downloads/quicksilver/QSCubeInterface.nib.zip?ref=chrismessina.me) from my server. Navigate to `~/Library/Application Support/Quicksilver/Plugins` in the Finder and make a backup of the existing `QSCubeInterface.nib` file in that directory. Now, right click on `QSCubeInterface.nib` and select "Show Package Contents". Drill into `Contents/Resources` and unzip the `QSCubeInterface.nib.zip` file in this directory, overwriting the existing `.nib` (you should have already made a backup). Now, quit and restart QuickSilver and you should be good to go. Lemme know if it works for you and if you come up with any other interesting examples of customization, post them to the [QuickSilver Flickr group](http://www.flickr.com/groups/qs?ref=chrismessina.me).

Chris, this is going to seem like the dumbest question in the world to you, but how in the hell do I enter custom Hexadecimal color codes into the Color preferences window that pops up? Maybe a brief tutorial, or even better a screencast, would be extremely to me in following this tutorial.....

Another quick question: I went to place your .nib file in "\~/Library/Application Support/Quicksilver/Plugins" as directed, but there wasn't any other .nib files in that directory. I placed the .nib inside the directory, quit and then restarted Quicksilver and it still looks exactly the same as the default. Are you sure that "\~/Library/Application Support/Quicksilver/Plugins" is where the .nib file is supposed to go?

Ok, I figured it out. The .nib part I mean. As fas as the colors, I just used the RGB slider and just tried to adjust the slider until I found a color I was comfortable with. Thanks for the .nib file!!!!

Hey Chris, thanks for the very clear write-up! However, I couldn't find the original QSCubeInterface.nib as described! There is, however a file called Cube Interface.qsplugin - what should I do?

Hey Janice -- right-click on QSCubeInterface.nib and pick "Show Package Contents". In `Contents/Resources` you should find the file you seek! ;)
