# Making it better

[Matt](http://photomatt.net/?ref=chrismessina.me) [writes eloquently](http://comox.textdrive.com/pipermail/wp-hackers/2005-April/000765.html?ref=chrismessina.me) about the kind of user experience he seeks to create in [WordPress](http://wordpress.org/?ref=chrismessina.me) and how it leads to a much larger goal:

> "We all love software that is a joy to use and elegant to work with. As far as WordPress can become that software to more people, I think we're doing a good job. "It's tough work — it hasn't been easy and it won't get any easier. There are proprietary and commercial companies trying to do the same thing, except with millions of dollars and dozens of full-time employees. However they don't have the community or passion that we have, and I think we can do a better job and make the world a better place in the process. I truly believe this, otherwise I would have given up or sold out long ago."

That Matt and I share such similar moral aesthetics contributes to how well we get along. Having similar long-term goals also helps. It's interesting to read Matt's characterization of the development of WordPress; in spite my [dayjob](http://civicspacelabs.org/?ref=chrismessina.me), he makes it sound so epic, I almost can't but pitch in... ...Which is perhaps the reason I'll be turning my attention to a new and exciting (as yet unannounced) venture very soon... working directly with Matt and the WordPress community... details as they develop!

Have the details of this venture been announced yet? I don't recall reading anything about it on the WP lists.. Also, cool logo. Is that to be used for WP in the future?

The venture was pushed back until WordPress got certain ducks lined up and it made sense to push a community marketing initiative. Fortunately, it seems the community is [self-organizing](http://codex.wordpress.org/Fundraising%5Fand%5FPromotions?ref=chrismessina.me), and when the time comes, we might consider building better tools than a wiki to support those efforts. The first idea I had for this initiative seems to have ended up as the November [project of the month](http://codex.wordpress.org/Fundraising%5Fand%5FPromotions/Wordsmith?ref=chrismessina.me), and I think by then it will make sense to start moving this larger infrastructure venture forward. The logo mockup was just a random stab at something since Matt had been discussing the branding overhaul at the time... so it's pretty much a simple doodle!
