# MySource, the next social worknet?

So it's funny, but there are now [two](http://code.google.com/p/vibekit/?ref=chrismessina.me) [projects](http://code.google.com/p/hiker/?ref=chrismessina.me) already that are being hosted in Google's new [open source environment](http://code.google.com/hosting/?ref=chrismessina.me) that I want to "join" (requests are already in to the creators)... I wonder if, like [Flickr groups](http://flickr.com/groups?ref=chrismessina.me), you'll eventually be able to "join" GC projects -- and be able to contribute and so forth... This still doesn't deal with the need for tools to enable non-code-writers to get involved in open-source (as is the goal of slow and effusive [CivicForge](http://civicforge.pbwiki.com/?ref=chrismessina.me)) but the simplicity of the GC site makes it much more attractive to folks like me, who can't stand the clutter and obnoxiousness of SF. Oh, and in other news, SF is now allowing you to [use external SVN repositories for your projects](http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum%5Fid=596911&ref=chrismessina.me). Accelerated by the [Google announcement](http://factoryjoe.com/blog/2006/07/27/devjavu-google-to-offer-open-source-project-hosting/?ref=chrismessina.me)? Methinks so.

are you aware of bountysource? (http://www.bountysource.com) a friend of mine here in philly runs it, and its gotten some notice in the OS community as well as the ajax community, particularly for a homebrew SVN browser that they released not only as a project but as a rails plugin. they're hosting some cool projects, and the whole "bounty" concept (i wont spoil the fun of reading their docs), i think, is great for motivating user-driver software enhancements.
