[](http://www.smashcast.org/?ref=chrismessina.me)My good friend [Mini Kahlon](http://www.brainbytes.com/?ref=chrismessina.me) over at [LPFI](http://www.lpfi.org/?ref=chrismessina.me) got some ["ink"](http://www.businessweek.com/the%5Fthread/blogspotting/archives/2006/02/podcasting%5Fpowe.html?ref=chrismessina.me) for a program that she's running at the [Smash Academy](http://www.lpfi.org/education/smash.shtml?ref=chrismessina.me) "to encourage kids of color to study science and tech in college". The idea behind [Smash](http://www.smashcast.org/?ref=chrismessina.me)? Give kids of color novel ways of publishing on the web ([starting with podcasting](http://leveler.typepad.com/smash/2005/10/our%5Ffirst%5Fpodca%5F1.html?ref=chrismessina.me)) and they'll naturally build community around formerly geektastic subjects like science and math. I mean think about it -- if you blog, you know that you want readers right? And to cultivate that readership, you've gotta go out and promote the thing -- linking to other people, telling your friends to read your inane rants or (gah) emailing your mother every time you post something new. This is such a great idea and holds so much promise for the next generation of tech-savvy young people that I'm looking ever more forward to the great things that I hope will come out of [Wine Camp](http://barcamp.org/WineCamp?ref=chrismessina.me) (speaking of... hopefully visiting this weekend with [Miss Rogue](http://horsepigcow.com/?ref=chrismessina.me) \-- event date by weekend's end!).

I work with Mini at LPFI. She's great. Were you able to locate the podcasts on the web? I'd love to give them a listen but can't seem to find where they are.
