Via [Zak Greant](http://zak.greant.com/sbloggingtalkingtim-bray-hits-the-nail-on-the-head/?ref=chrismessina.me), [Tim Bray](http://www.tbray.org/?ref=chrismessina.me) [lays it down](http://www.tbray.org/ongoing/When/200x/2006/03/31/Scoble-in-March?ref=chrismessina.me): "As a thought experiment, replace the word ‘blogging’ with ‘email’ or ‘conference presentation’ or ‘teleconference’ or ‘sales presentation’. Or ‘barroom conversation’ for that matter. Quick, quick, you wanna be safe, you better lock all your employees up and never let ’em say anything to anyone!" ... "If your employees are going to say stupid things in public, you’ve got a management problem and a policy problem, not a blogging problem."

Chris - did you catch Scott Anderson of HP (he's the Director of Enterprise Brand Communications) at the Syndicate conference last December? If not, you can catch it here - http://www.itconversations.com/shows/detail997.html It is well worth listening to - he totally gets blogging and he discusses how the HP legal and marketing teams tried to stick their noses into the HP blogging initiative and how he told them to get knotted!
